Well, the decision has been made. It is difficult to announce this to all of you that love the fair as much as we do! On Monday 6/8/20, the McLeod County Agricultural Association approved by majority vote to postpone the 2020 McLeod County Fair and begin focusing on making the 2021 McLeod County Fair one of our best yet. This decision was not easy to come to. It was done so with respect to the health and safety of our 32,000 guests, volunteers, exhibitors, and performers that pass through our fair gates each year, as well as our wider community.
There will always be unknown issues that may jeopardize the safety of our guests, exhibitors, and volunteers of the coordination of the McLeod County Fair that is out of our control. But at this moment in time, we have a known threat (coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic) that could potentially jeopardize the health of our guests, exhibitors, and volunteers. This potential liability of moving forward, knowing we could be doing something that is harmful to people, is something we cannot live with. The essence of the McLeod County Fair is standing shoulder to shoulder with our McLeod County neighbors celebrating our unique exhibitors, entertainment, and performances. During this time of social distancing we cannot accomplish our mission to our fullest. McLeod County 4-H is aware of this decision and has plans to proceed with a modified version of project judging for this summer.
We understand that many of you may not agree with this decision, and that is okay. With the information available to us at this time, it is difficult to proceed any further before putting our Fair’s future at risk. The guidelines for MN in August are still so unclear. We intend to come back bigger and better than ever with a fantastic fair in 2021!
Thank you for your Support,
The McLeod County Fair Board
